What should you do if your vehicle starts to skid?

When a vehicle begins to skid, the most effective response is to steer into the direction of the skid. This technique, known as "counter-steering," helps to realign the vehicle with its intended path. By turning the steering wheel in the direction that the rear of the car is sliding, the driver can regain control and bring the vehicle back in line. This method works by shifting the weight of the car and helps to stabilize it, reducing the likelihood of a more severe loss of control.

The other responses are not effective for managing a skid. Braking hard can cause further loss of traction, making the skid worse. Turning the wheel sharply in the opposite direction could lead to oversteering, which may cause the vehicle to spin.
